What is Redfin?
Redfin is a customer-first real estate brokerage that represents people buying and selling homes. Founded and run by technologists, Redfin has a team of experienced, full-service real estate agents who are advocates, not salespeople, earning customer-satisfaction bonuses, not commissions. Redfin also offers online tools that make the entire process of buying or selling a home easier and more fun. Redfin has helped more than 30,000 families buy and sell homes.

Can I buy a home with Redfin?
YES! Redfin is a full-service real estate brokerage, and our experienced, local agents can guide you through the entire home-buying process. We’ll help you explore what you can afford and where to look, and then represent you when you make an offer, during negotiations and throughout the closing process. You can see as many homes as you like with no sales pressure and, during negotiations, we work hard to get you the best possible price. When you're done, we refund* a portion of our commission back to you so you save thousands without compromising on service.

*State law prevents us from offering a refund to homebuyers in some states.
Can I sell my home with Redfin?
Absolutely! Redfin agents are experts in our markets. We will help you properly price your home, and we’ll guide you every step of the way, marketing your home through targeted email campaigns and professionally designed print brochures. We’ll hold as many open houses as you need and create a Redfin 3D Walkthrough of your home so potential buyers can tour it right from Redfin.com. Plus, our team-based approach means that someone is always available to help you. And Redfin charges a commission of just 1.5 percent for home sellers — half the average listing fee. But our agents don’t get paid that commission directly: The commission is paid to Redfin, and the agent who helped sell your home receives a customer-service bonus based on your review of the home-selling experience. You can read every review of every Redfin agent online, and our pay model makes us accountable to you: We’ll help you close a good deal, but we’ll tell you when to walk away from a bad one, too. Our service and our business model can really pay off for our customers: In 2014, homes listed with Redfin sold an average of 10 days faster and for $5,100 more.
What is the Redfin commission refund?
When you buy a home with a real estate agent, the seller pays a commission to the agent, on average worth 2.5 percent to 3 percent of the home's purchase price. When you buy a home with Redfin, we'll refund* a portion of that commission to you. Since our customers find us through our website, our agents can focus on delivering great customer service for less money. A typical Redfin customer saves thousands on a home purchase.

*State law prevents us from offering a refund to homebuyers in some states.
How much does Redfin charge sellers?
We charge 1.5 percent — half the average listing fee. While you still have to pay commission to the buyer's agent, your total brokerage fee with Redfin is reduced because our seller's agent fee is lower.

Partner agents are employed by other brokerages and have teamed up with us to provide Redfin-quality service to a wider range of customers. We will refer a customer to a partner agent if a home is outside our direct service area or we're experiencing unusually high customer demand. We carefully interview these partner agents and they must adhere to the same principles that guide every Redfin agent. Read more about our partner agents.
How does Redfin make money?
As a real estate brokerage, Redfin makes money by helping people buy and sell homes:

  • When customers make an offer on a home using Redfin, we earn a commission as their broker. We return a portion of our commission to the customer*, and retain the remainder for our services.
  • For customers listing their home to sell, our listing service rate is 1.5 percent of the final sale price (with a minimum fee of $4,500-$5,500, depending on location).
*State law prevents us from offering a refund to homebuyers in some states.
Why would a real estate agent work at Redfin?
Redfin agents get to spend all our time doing what we love -- helping people buy and sell homes. We spend zero time looking for new clients. As employees of a modern, technology-focused company, Redfin agents have many opportunities for career growth and advancement, as well as the experience of working with a team. And we’re near the top of agent earnings nationwide. In addition to being paid a competitive salary, we receive health benefits and we get customer-service bonuses for every transaction we close. And we close a lot of transactions! The average Redfin agent closes three deals a month; that’s compared with the six deals of the year that is standard in the industry. Redfin provides our computers, iPads and pays our cellphone bills, plus the brokerage covers expenses like transportation, MLS dues and E&O insurance, and there are no brokerage fees.
